Craft Frame Ideas
Internet projects can be an important and
valuable learning experience for your students. They often involve
language arts, geography, science, math, and cultural exchanges.
I have taken part in several of the projects listed. They
are marked with a
. You will
need to plan ahead for your project to be sure you and the class are
ready, and that you will be able to complete it.
Suggested project levels:
L=
grades K-2 M=grades 3-5 U=6-8
Postcard Geography - This is a
writing and addressing postcards activity. Since it is difficult for
some students to write neatly with no lines, you can draw lines on the
postcards for those students. You will need 200-300 postcards and
stamps. You will need to check with your visitors bureau, hotels, and
students for postcards which show your area. Some of the more artistic
students make some cards. My PTO helped me with postage. The last year
I did this project my class covered a back wall with postcards. You
can also use e-cards. (LMU)
Journey North - This project
engages students in a global study of wildlife migration and seasonal
change. My third grade class was chosen as a mystery class for this
project in 1999. Other classes had to guess where we were
located based on clues we gave. You can go
here
to see the introduction of our class at the end of the project.
(MU)
Flat Stanley Project -
This project is based on the book Flat Stanley. It involves the
students in writing, art, and map experiences. Flat Stanley is sent to
other places via conventional mail, but other correspondence can be
done via e-mail. (LM)
Geo Game -
This is an excellent project in which students learn geography terms,
how to read and interpret maps, and increase an awareness and
appreciation of geographical and cultural diversity.
(MU)
epals - This is an international
keypal program in which students email their peers around the world.
You can put a description in the search such as Christian, home
school, gifted, special ed, or other if you want to limit your
correspondence to specific groups. Younger classes can construct a
class letter to send. (LMU)
World
Weather Watch - Students will learn about weather in their own
area and in other parts of the world. For more information, e-mail
Leni. (MU)
Off to a
Flying Start - A project from NASA about flight. Students
make and test out a Falcon Flyer (LM)
